The project to build a community space auditorium in Adilabad district was envisaged by Government of Telangana state. Ketham Santosh Kumar, Principal Architect at Ketham’s Atelier, was invited to give a design proposal for the Auditorium with ancillary facilities accommodating 1500 persons. Proposed design draws its inspiration from layers/stratums of Vastu Purusha, Hindu temple geometry and Vitruvian Man’s scale and proportion. The whole complex is carved out of layered geometry to bring an innovative design.
The auditorium orientation facilitates clear visibility of surrounding landscape and the built-form merges with the rural fabric. The complex is linear in form with an open courtyard in the center – a soft landscaped transition space between auditorium and dining area with kitchen. Climatically Hot and dry region must have smaller openings, thus Auditorium’s thick brick walls with small openings doesn’t allow heat to penetrate and makes the inner spaces luminous enough while allowing vistas of surrounding landscape.
The auditorium could become a tourist attraction as it coalesces well with historic context and the existing landscape to become an identity in itself.
